Streets, squares, and venues of Villaharta
Organized by
Villaharta City Council
Villaharta is historically known for being a haven of peace closely linked to the natural wealth of its spas and its emblematic mineral-medicinal water springs. To pay tribute to this great legacy, since 2009 the festivity of “Aguosto” has been celebrated with enormous enthusiasm, an ingenious play on words that fuses water (“agua”) with the month of August (“agosto”).
The City Council promotes this summer initiative with the firm purpose of recovering and highlighting the true hallmarks of the municipality: water as a source of life and coexistence. In this way, residents and visitors enjoy a summer overflowing with cultural, recreational, and sports activities.
A Refreshing and Magical Program
The summer program is woven together by a series of friendly characters who give life and meaning to the party throughout the streets.
The Water Carrier (El Aguaor)
During the hottest days, the traditional figure of the “Aguaor” roams the town’s streets distributing fresh water among passersby to relieve the heat and remember the vital importance of our springs.
The Drought (La Sequía)
The funniest moment arrives with the appearance of “La Sequía”. This character is chased throughout the municipality by crowds armed with water, in a great refreshing pitched battle that celebrates abundance.
The Spirit of Aguosto
Finally, “Aguosto”, the central character who gives the festival its name, makes his triumphant appearance. His arrival officially announces a new month of splendor, joy, and vitality for Villaharta.
