The Public Wells
of Villaharta

A peculiar feature of Villaharta is its public wells. Before the arrival of drinking water in 1955, these old wells supplied the homes and hold within them the stories and the evolution of our people.

Many of them were built taking advantage of the widening of the streets, and their names—such as Modesta or Manolita—pay tribute to the women who lived next to them.

Did you know that the City Council has restored these areas keeping the original tiles with the image of the Archangel San Rafael? Even those wells that had to be covered by progress today feature a commemorative tile so as not to be forgotten.
